Under the German G20 Presidency, the annual GPFI Forum was held in Berlin on May 2-3, 2017.
The 2017 GPFI Forum convened around 270 representatives from G20 and non-G20 member countries, global financial standard-setting bodies, banks, mobile network operators, FinTechs, think tanks, and civil society to discuss and exchange on a wide range of topics:
- the role of financial inclusion in achieving the Agenda 2030;
- financial inclusion in the context of the G20 Partnership with Africa;
- financial inclusion as integrally linked to financial sector stability, integrity and the protection of customer;
- SME financing in sustainable global value chains;
- young entrepreneurship;
- financial inclusion of forcibly displaced persons;
- regional initiatives for financial inclusion;
- Digital Financial Inclusion (DFI), the role of big data and costumer protection and the implementation of the G20 High Level Principles for DFI; and
- the need for appropriate enabling legal and regulatory environments with a special focus on consumer and data protection and financial education.
The active participation of all attendees contributed to lively and insightful discussions on the outlined topics. Many of the issues raised found their way into the GPFI Subgroup meetings held during the GPFI Plenary on 4 May, also in Berlin. Conference related documentation will be available soon.
